Statement on Kansas City Municipal General Election: We congratulate the winners of yesterday's Kansas City Council races, but we have major concerns about the most notable thing about this election: Low voter turnout. Whether your candidate won or lost yesterday, only 12% of the registered voters in Kansas City got out and voted to decide who would be the next leaders of the city. As we head into the 2016 election cycle, we as Democrats, and all citizens regardless of political party, need to drastically increase how much we concentrate on turning out the vote.
JACKSON COUNTY, MISSOURI (January 20, 2013) – Tom Wyrsch, Chair of the Jackson County Democratic Committee, released this statement in response to President Obama’s State of the Union Address:
“In November, Jackson County at the countywide level voted for our Democratic elected officials by a 55-45 margin, and now we stand behind our President after his State of the Union address.
