Statement on Kansas City Municipal General Election: We congratulate the winners of yesterday's Kansas City Council races, but we have major concerns about the most notable thing about this election: Low voter turnout. Whether your candidate won or lost yesterday, only 12% of the registered voters in Kansas City got out and voted to decide who would be the next leaders of the city. As we head into the 2016 election cycle, we as Democrats, and all citizens regardless of political party, need to drastically increase how much we concentrate on turning out the vote.

Today, Governor Jay Nixon stood with Missouri working families and our middle class by vetoing House Bill 116, the so-called "Right to Work" bill. We are saddened to hear of the passing of Alex Petrovic - a former State Representative, Eastern District Judge, and community leader. On behalf of the Jackson County Democratic Committee, we wanted to let our local Democrats known of Alex's passing.
